How to Fix an Unraveled Granny Square or Stripe Blanket

Here is the sorry state of a beloved vintage granny stripe blanket. It’s been with me for almost 20 years and is a favorite to snuggle up on the couch with. The kids also drag it around and take it to bed, so it’s sadly needed a few heavy washings. Yay! for acrylic on that one, but it’s taken a beating. This granny stripe afghan has started to unravel from the bottom up. I should have intervened right there and fixed it or at least put it in the to fix pile, which grows every day it seems. But instead...

Interview with Camille of By Camille Designs Etsy Shop

Today I have to pleasure of presenting an interview with Camille, the busy Etsy shop owner of By Camille Designs,  that keeps my Instagram feed busy and happy. Camille stocks her Etsy store with a wide variety of items: handmade jewelry, drawings, paintings, blankets, scarfs and handcrafted rugs. Her handcrafted doily rugs seem to be a hot seller, and you can see why. They are stunning! I love that Camille is multi-talented: she crochets, knits, does macrame, paints, draws, is a business owner, and loves bunnies.  All that combined and having a thriving Etsy store high on my wishlist, I...

The Use it Up Yarn Challenge

After a good year of processing my eco guilt about becoming a yarn consumer, I’m finally ready to really put on the brakes on yarn shopping. Especially after reviewing The Handknitter’s Yarn Guide, it really hit home that not every yarn choice is sustainable or good for the environment. I understood this before, but I was caught in the newbie glee of buying crochet supplies.  So here we are, at a decision that it’s time to stop buying yarn, dun, dun, dun! Do you think it’s time you went on a yarn diet? OK and truth be told, the other reason...

10 Reasons to Love Alpaca Yarn - Learn why this natural fiber is well loved for knit and crochet projects 20

10 Reasons to Love Alpaca Yarn

Dubbed the green sheep and the miracle fiber, alpaca gets a lot of love from knitters and crocheters. Alpacas are really cute, fluffy animals whose fleece is prized as a luxury fiber. They are tough little creatures and they have been part of our fiber story for millennia. Is alpaca fiber really all that? Yup!
