The Handknitter's Yarn Guide - Book Review of this Essential Resource for Knitters and Crocheters 5

Book Review: The Handknitter’s Yarn Guide

I have been wanting to learn about different types of fiber for a while, but kept finding myself gravitating back to acrylic, acrylic blends or cotton blends. These are the types of fiber I am most comfortable with using just out of habit. I have a good idea now how these fibers behave and that is really helpful when planning a project. But when I wanted to start exploring other yarn, it was a little confusing.  How do you find the yarn that has it all,  if such a wonderful thing exists? Maybe you want an economical yarn that’s washable...

Book Review: Contemporary Celtic Crochet by Bonnie Barker

Aran Celtic crochet is my all time favorite style of crochet. Hailing from Ireland, Celtic crochet is known for it’s rich cables and textured stitches. While the projects may look intricate and complicated, with practice the stitches are really not hard. It just all comes together beautifully. Book Review When I saw that Aran crochet designer Bonnie Barker was coming out with a new book, Contemporary Celtic Crochet, I knew this pattern book was joining my collection. What a fun mail day when it finally arrived! After spending some time looking through the book and planning projects, I know if...

A First Impression of Berroco Comfort Yarn – Review

Berroco Comfort is my first foray into the world of the LYS (local yarn shop). I wanted to try out this yarn and found that a close by yarn shop carried it, so away we went. I have since figured out there are a few places to order Berroco Comfort yarn online, but I do like being able to stop in and see the colors for myself. After making a few blankets with it, I’m sharing my review. Here I am reviewing the worsted weight of Berroco comfort. What you get: Berroco Comfort is 50% nylon and 50% acrylic. Full...

Many people have chimed in so please check out the comments and see if there is a solution to your problem. If not, please feel free to post it and I will try to research for you. ...

Shetland Chunky Tweeds 4

Patons Shetland Chunky Tweeds Yarn Review

Patons Shetland Chunky Yarn is a Bulky weight yarn that comes in solids, tweeds and variegated. It is 75% acrylic and 25% wool, so it is considered easy care and washable.   I grabbed a couple of skeins in color Earthy Brown Tweed to make my father a scarf and wanted to share my impression of this yarn. Until now, I really haven’t found a nice wool blend that I want to use as a go-to yarn. Lion Brand’s Wool Ease is ok, but I found the scarf I made for my son stretched out after washing. Maybe I could...
