Interview with Camille of By Camille Designs Etsy Shop
Today I have to pleasure of presenting an interview with Camille, the busy Etsy shop owner of By Camille Designs, that keeps my Instagram feed busy and happy. Camille stocks her Etsy store with a wide variety of items: handmade jewelry, drawings, paintings, blankets, scarfs and handcrafted rugs. Her handcrafted doily rugs seem to be a hot seller, and you can see why. They are stunning!
I love that Camille is multi-talented: she crochets, knits, does macrame, paints, draws, is a business owner, and loves bunnies. All that combined and having a thriving Etsy store high on my wishlist, I felt it was time to get to know Camille a little better. So let’s see what she has to say.
Interview with Camille of By Camille Designs
You crochet, knit, paint, draw and dabble in macrame. And probably you have more hobbies I haven’t seen on Instagram yet. Which one is your favorite and why?
I do have others, like sewing, but there is only so much time in the day 🙂 I think drawing has to be my first love. Probably because it came naturally and from early on it was the thing I was best at in school. I am in such a happy place when I draw/paint.
You run a pretty busy Etsy shop and it looks like you work at it as a full time job. What’s the most important habit you have that helps you organize your time to get it all done?
Discipline. I work at it every single day whether I feel like it or not. If I’m sick of crocheting then I do something else like reading up on how to improve SEO, take better pictures, etc.
Your doily rugs are very popular. How do you keep it interesting for yourself crocheting the same general design concept a lot?
I have one particular design that I think I must have made about 100 of by now. It can get a bit boring and I resort to bribing myself with promises of trips to the Art Store, chocolate, whatever it takes 🙂 I also find it helps to alternate with working on something new.
Your shop has been open since 2008, that’s quite an accomplishment! What’s your one best tip for aspiring Etsy entrepreneurs?
Be prepared to work your derriere off. By work I mean figuring out your target market and how to find them, working at titles, tags, descriptions, pictures and some sort of social media while also filling your shop with great items. I’ve been open since 2008, but with sporadic sales, it’s only been in the last 3 years that I’ve been able to generate a decent income.
A big thank you to Camille for answering my interview questions! I really loved her replies. I only regret I couldn’t include tons more of her pictures. Please do check out her shop for more inspiration. You can find Camille on Instagram and Etsy.
