Audiobooks Make Crafting Even Better

Once you get that rhythm going in a pattern, humming along in the nice alpha waves of a meditative activity like crocheting or knitting, it’s fun to experiment with some creative multitasking. What do you like to do to make crafting even better? Some people like to watch TV or maybe even switch back and forth between reading a book. Me, I love to listen to audiobooks!

Audiobooks have brought so much joy to my life.  I never would have imagined that being able to listen to books would have brightened my family’s day so much. It is a pleasant surprise! One son is a late reader, with vision issues that made it so he couldn’t even see the letters properly until going through therapy. Dear hubby is dyslexic, and while he can finish reading a book when he is very motivated, the effort takes a lot out of him. So we got an Audible account so we could all enjoy books more.

We get one credit a month which we take turns using and enjoy discounts on other books at the member price. I love being able to discuss books with my husband now, and the kids are always into some series they listen to while building Legos. We’ve all listened to Watership Down, and it’s a pleasure to hear references come up in casual conversation. Fiction is my personal favorite, but I discovered The Great Courses too and have been having fun learning classical physics while folding laundry (at a huge discount to boot).

But the party really started when I realized combining listening to audiobooks with crochet or knitting is one of the best combos around. It’s up there with chocolate and peanut butter, toast and jam, pride and prejudice, you get the point! You don’t have to look up, you’re in a rhythm already – pause for pattern changes – pair some mindless pattern with chai and noise cancelling headphones and you got yourself some blissful and well-deserved me time.

Give it a try, I think you will find your crafting time has become even better! You can use this link to sign up for a 30-day trial membership: Try Audible and Get Two Free Audiobooks. You get to keep your books even if you cancel.

Great article, I love the picture. I’m scared that I’ll miss something by listening to an audio book. I really like reading, but still haven’t figured out how to knit and read at the same time, so I guess audio will make it the best of both worlds.

Awesome post, Sakeenah! I loved Watership Down, one of my all time favorites! Book and audio!

I’m usually listening to something when crafting or doing chores around the house. Sometimes biz learning, sometimes lectures like Mufti Menk’s Pearl of Wisdom, (getting excited about Ramadan!) and sometimes crafty tutes!
